Problem

customer-cisneros is requesting a usability improvement to the way multiple hosts are selected in the Fleet UI. They would like the ability to hold down a modifier key (likely Shift, Command, etc.) on the keyboard to make it easier to multi-select groups of hosts. This would be an improvement to the current method, which requires clicking the checkbox next to each host, even if the hosts appear sequentially on the host list.

What have you tried?

Currently, selecting multiple hosts in the Fleet UI requires clicking the checkbox next to each host or the header checkbox to select all hosts on the page. There’s no way to select a starting and ending host in a list and select all hosts in between.

Potential solutions

Customer-cisneros has requested the ability to select a host in the Fleet UI, hold down shift (or another modifier key), select another host, and have all hosts in between also be selected.

What is the expected workflow as a result of your proposal?

A Fleet admin using the Fleet UI would pick a column to sort their Host view so all hosts with a common attribute would appear sequentially in the hosts list. Next, they would select the starting host, then hold down a modifier key on their keyboard and select the end host. All hosts in between the selections would also be selected. Today, the Fleet admin would move those hosts to another team, but in the future, they might be able to run scripts on the selected hosts.
